Arctic Sea Ice Extent is Third Lowest on Record - NASA

U.S. satellite measurements show Arctic sea ice extent in 2009 was the third lowest since 1979 when satellite measurements commenced. Analysts noted that the ice area at minimum was an increase from the past two years, but still well below the average for the past 30 years.

Changing Arctic ice cover now affecting the earth environment

Scientists are seeing drastic changes in Arctic ice cover now from just five years ago and at rates faster than anticipated. The findings were presented in the annual update of the Arctic Report Card managed by 71 national and international scientists that include the United States of America, Canada, Belgium, China, Denmark, Japan, The Netherlands, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

September Temperature Was Second Warmest - NOAA

The surface temperature of global land and ocean in September was the second warmest on record, according to NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center. Based on records going back to 1880, they found that The combined global land and ocean surface temperature was 1.12 degrees F above the 20th century average of 59.0 degrees F.
