Call for Climate Protection Projects in Developing, Newly Industrializing and Transition Countries
The International Climate Initiative launched by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) of Germany supports climate protection projects in developing, newly industrialising and transition countries ("partner countries") and complements the Federal Government's existing international, multi- and bilateral cooperation. The projects are geared towards the needs of the partner countries and are intended to support them in climate protection, especially reducing greenhouse gases, improving adaptability to the consequences of climate change and conserving and sustainably using climate-relevant areas which merit protection. The International Climate Initiative thereby helps to implement the Bali Roadmap and the Copenhagen Accord and facilitates consensus with regard to an ambitious post- 2012 climate protection agreement. Specific projects under the Initiative support the partner countries, for example in developing and/or implementing their own measurable, reportable and verifiable (MRV) mitigation commitments and in carrying out particularly innovative projects in the three focal areas.
