Half-precessional dynamics of monsoon rainfall in East Africa

A recent reaserch article in the journal Nature show that monsoon rainfall in East Africa varied at half-precessional (~11,500-year) intervals, because the southeasterly and northeasterly Indian Ocean monsoons, which together create the bimodal seasonal distribution of equatorial rainfall, were strengthened in alternation when the inter-hemispheric insolation gradient was maximized.

World's top emitter of greenhouse gases China together with India, Brazil and South Africa rejected core targets for a climate deal such as halving world greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and demanded that richer nations do more. A legally binding deal is already out of reach for the U.N. talks that only expect a possible political deal.

Saudi Arabia floods cause more deaths

Torrential rain waters inundated the Red Sea port on Wednesday after Saudi Arabia saw some of the heaviest rainfall in years. Some 1,400 residents had to be rescued. Officials say that the number of dead in has risen to around 100.
