Climate change is helping British wine-makers to revive a lost tradition of making red wines. Red wines need warmth and sunshine the most and recent mild winters and springs are helping to grow right kind of grapes to produce quality red wines. Red wine making has also stared in Germany and other parts of France not previously used to grow types grapes used for red wines.

More than a hundred people have died and many are missing after heavy rains triggered flooding and mudslides in El Salvador. The heavy rains were apparently related to a low-pressure system out of the Pacific rather than Hurricane Ida, which headed north-northwest toward the Gulf Coast.

A video created by using data from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder instrument on NASA's Aqua satellite shows plumes of carbon monoxide being transported in Earth's atmosphere around the globe.

U.S. satellite measurements show Arctic sea ice extent in 2009 was the third lowest since 1979 when satellite measurements commenced. Analysts noted that the ice area at minimum was an increase from the past two years, but still well below the average for the past 30 years.

Scientists are seeing drastic changes in Arctic ice cover now from just five years ago and at rates faster than anticipated. The findings were presented in the annual update of the Arctic Report Card managed by 71 national and international scientists that include the United States of America, Canada, Belgium, China, Denmark, Japan, The Netherlands, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
