More than a hundred people have died and many are missing after heavy rains triggered flooding and mudslides in El Salvador. The heavy rains were apparently related to a low-pressure system out of the Pacific rather than Hurricane Ida, which headed north-northwest toward the Gulf Coast. It is rather interesting to note that the low-pressure system developed when the present El Nino condition is receding in the Eastern Pacific.
