ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CHEMICAL OCEANOGRAPHY in Texas A&M University, College Station

in Scientist

The Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University, College Station, TX is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in chemical oceanography. The position will be funded for nine months per year, to begin by August 2013. A Ph.D. in chemical oceanography, chemistry, or a closely related field is required, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.

The position includes teaching (undergraduate and graduate), research and service, and the successful candidate will be expected to establish an ongoing research program. This should contribute to and make use of the technical expertise available at the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG; see www.gerg.tamu.edu). The research effort should be experimentally based and could focus on one of the following areas: biogeochemical cycling of organic carbon, inorganic carbon and associated elements; trace element and/or radioisotope cycling in the marine environment; chemical oceanographic aspects of climate change; utilization of modern chemical instrumental techniques and novel chemical approaches; sensor technology; international, multi-disciplinary chemical oceanography programs; development of innovative regional investigations of global chemical processes; and application of chemical techniques and technologies for regional coastal observing.

Women and minority groups are especially encouraged to apply. Applications, containing a curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, contact information for at least three references, and up to four reprints, should be sent to MIchele Beal, College of Geosciences, Texas A&M University (michelebeal@tamu.edu). Additional information may be obtained from Dr. Thomas Bianchi, Department of Oceanography, Texas A&M University (tbianchi@tamu.edu). The department's website is http://ocean.tamu.edu.

Texas A&M University is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.

Vacancy Programming Support Scientist - Climate Projection Science at CSIRO

in Scientist

CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research are seeking to appoint a motivated
and experienced project support scientist to provide programming support
for the development of climate change projections and the assessment of
climate change impacts, risks, and vulnerabilities.

The position is part of the Climate Variability and Change Program
within the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR) -
a partnership between CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology. The program
is a national research capability for seasonal prediction, climate
prediction and climate change science, and the application of climate
change projections to impacts, risks and vulnerabilities assessments.

Specifically you will:

Develop programming tools to apply established techniques for generating
regional climate projections. This will primarily involve analysis of
very large datasets comprised of observed climate data, the outputs from
global climate model simulations and regional downscaling simulations,
and other environmental data sets.

Apply and/or develop programming tools for conducting climate change
impacts and risks assessments. This will primarily involve application
of established models such as the rainfall-runoff model.

Collaborate on research projects in climate projection science.

Collaborate with scientist in other disciplines as part of projects
focusing on impacts and risks assessment and projects focusing on
climate change adaptations.

Location: Aspendale, Victoria

Salary: $55K - $70K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

For further details and to apply online for the position of Programming
Support Scientist - Climate Projection Science please visit our website
