Changes in radiative forcing contribute to the trend of global warming but this trend also depends on how humankind interacts through changes in technology, economies, lifestyle and policy. Because of the uncertainties in future forcing trends, it has been difficult to develop adaptation and mitigation schemes. A recent study published in the Nature describes a new process for creating plausible scenarios to investigate some of the most challenging and important questions about climate change.
